BWW654B was new to one of the well known Doncaster independent operators, T. Severn & sons of Dunscroft. When new it carried a very smart livery of green and cream, which would almost fool you into believing they were a large municipal operator rather than a small private operator. BWW spent the majority of its life with Severn's on their routes operating from Doncasters Crist Church terminus. In common with most of the independent operators Severn's were taken over by the South Yorkshire PTE (SYPTE) in the 1970's. The buses continued to run from Severn's depot as it was the best of all the depots gained from the aquisitions. BWW654B was numbered 1156 in the SYPTE fleet and ran from Duscroft garage until withdrawl in June 1980, although it is rumoured it may have run from Leicester Avenue, the former Doncaster Corporation depot. the bus was stored until mid 1982 when it was taken to Central Works in Sheffield where it was converted into a recovery vehicle and renumbered M18.

M18 was allocated to East Bank garage in Sheffield, although it could well have been regarded as the fleet spare tow wagon because each depot already had their own tow wagon. BWW654B is known to have spent some time at Herries Road in 1986 whilst their own wagon M3 was being overhauled and repainted. During 1987 M18 was transfered to Greenland Road garage when their wagon was converted into a snow plough. It remained their until late 1994 when it was involved in a serious accident in Sheffield City centre, being hit head on by a Mainline Volvo B10M, whilst attending a breakdown. M18 was withdrawn shortly afterwards.

M18 was sold in April 1995 to Isle Coaches of Owston Ferry near Doncaster, to be used as spares, however it was soon passed on to a new owner, Dave Lovegrove, for preservation. The majority of the accident damage was repaired and the bus was stored in the yard at Isle Coaches until April 2002 when the bus was generously donated to the M3 Preservation Group. M18 moved to the Ribble Vehicle Preservation Trust's premises on 1st April 2002. Since the it has had some outstanding jobs completed to the damaged cab area, before being prepared for a repaint. M18 was totally repainted in SYPTE livery in July 2002 and after some mechanical repairs passed its MOT in September 2002 prior to making its preservation debut at the Sheffield Meadowhall transport rally in September 2002.
